Photography Class Day 1: whiners
It’s my first day to enter Devcom Photography class today. I should have taken that a long time ago before I went shooting brides for a living back in 2005. I was a Com Sci major back then when I started so, go figure. I had to play hookie to go shoot people. I had to make a living anyway–still am.
So my classmates (who are like half a decade younger than I am) stared at me because they thought I already finished this course. It was an evaluation glitch mind you but I don’t care anymore.
I have 18 units right now, 6 more next sem then OJT. It’s NOT easy juggling school and 3 kinds of jobs. So how do I manage? I rant and rave when time permits, read a book one chapter a day, then work till midnight. I wake up at 7 the next day. I work on my webdev projects in between classes. It’s brute force time management.
I know I sound snooty but when my classmates whine about a 300-word article to be passed the next day, I get pissed off. Come on, I write at least 4 500-word articles to be passed the next day–sometimes I beat the deadline, sometimes I don’t. The articles are not all I worry about, I have an average of 3 other projects to finish.
Today, several of them whined about not learning photography because they have NO cameras. I know at least three photographers in the city who cannot afford to buy their own cameras but still managed to be respected people in the world photography that we are in.
Never blame the lack of tools to make up for what you lack. If you lack the initiative, that’s your problem. As Sir Evans said, you can beg, borrow, steal or rent–the steal part is a joke of course. Same goes with Com Sci students who blame their parents for their inability to provide them with high-end computers. I know a lot of people who are good in programming or animation who managed to get away with low end computers.
All they have to worry about is getting a high grade. They got all the time in the world–I wish they could hand over a few hours my way.
I’m getting old. Don’t mind me.

Nice point.
Usahay gani it’s the lack of tools that make a person very good at what he wants to do. Because he/she’s gonna make most of what he/she has to create something (like or better) than sa mabuhat sa uban na kumpleto. Dbah?

Being in Devcom (vs. Masscom) has always been about improvisation - making do or do without. Go DC!
miss you all guys, hehehe
